What is the condition of your heart?

Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever stopped to think about how life experiences, situations, and circumstances have impacted your heart? When was the last time you stopped to place your hand on it to remind yourself that you’re still here and your still alive?

But, let’s be honest. You’ve probably been through some things. Your heart has perhaps undergone as an assault that has caused it not to function to its best capacity. You have probably done a great job of fooling yourself and others that it’s all “good vibes only” and positive mantras over here, but you know. You know when there is a longing in your soul that chakras, crystals, and meditations cannot fill. You know when you are still walking around with a void that no matter how many church services, bible studies, and volunteer small groups you attend can fill it. You know, that you know, when you know that this just isn’t it.

Man looks at the outward appearance, but God searches the heart.

We have somehow managed to drift away from the heart of the matter. We have perhaps deceived ourselves into believing that we can be Lord over our own lives, make excellent decisions, work endlessly to achieve success without becoming burnt out, and the like. This is why the Lord says in Psalm ___, “The heart is desperately and deceitfully wicked, who can know it.”

What is the condition of your heart?

Is it stony? Has it gotten hard due to disobedience? Silencing the voice of God, so you no longer feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit?

Is it contaminated? Have you slacked on maintaining boundaries? Have you opened up doors to conversations, people, and things that have started to taint your perception? Did you stop guarding your heart with all diligence?

Is it chained? Has your heart become bound up due to the unreleased of forgiveness? Has the bitterness and resentment arrested your ability to flow in joy and love?

Is it impaired? Have the negative words, criticism, and harshness of others deflated you? Has the marks of the people who left you and didn’t show up for you left footprints and tracks on your heart that no prevent you from trusting anyone? Even God?

What is the condition of your heart?

Listen, this is real life… we have things that we have encountered that we may still not fully understand or be able to make total sense of. The thing is, God didn’t hurt you. He didn’t break your heart. He wasn’t the one who took it and trampled it to pieces. He was the One who was always reaching out to you and saying, “I’m your safe place to put your heart. The arm of flesh will fail you, but I never will. Mother and father will leave you and forsake you, but I will never leave you.”

So, you made the mistake of inviting all of these things into your life that opened up the door for a spiritual, mental, and emotional attack on your life. You tried to fill the void with busyness, with alcohol, with partying, with excessive gyming, with food, etc.… and it still hasn’t touched that spot. You’re seeking. You’re trying. You’re looking, and you’re hoping.

“Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Your heart is precious to the one who created it. You have trusted it in the hands of everyone and everything, but Him. Why not give Him a chance?

Whatever the current condition of your heart, God already knows it. He’s waiting for us to open our mouths and be honest with ourselves that we have some issues that need His healing touch. The moment you are honest with yourself is the moment that freedom, healing, and deliverance can begin to take place. I do not promise you that it is an overnight quick fix, but I promise you that there is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain.

Challenge:

  1. Do a word search of the scriptures in the bible on the topic: “Heart”

  2. Write out 5 scriptures that most stand out to you.

  3. Carve out 30 minutes of quiet time/alone to place your hand on your heart and to pray those scriptures.

  4. Journal any thoughts, feelings, or insights you have.
